We are thrilled to share some wonderful news about the future of our music program! Due to an incredibly high number of student enrollments for the upcoming school year and the continued growth of our program, the Baker High School Band program will be expanding. Next year, we will officially transition into two distinct band ensembles: the Wind Ensemble and the Concert Band. In alignment with best educational practices, each band will remain a single period during the school day, perform the same number of concerts, and provide all students with equitable opportunities. To ensure the audition process is equitable and accessible for every student, the requirements are structured as follows:
Adjudication: Students will perform for and be evaluated by a panel of music teachers.
Wind Players: Prepared performance of a chromatic scale, two contrasting 16-measure excerpts (as posted on Google Classroom), plus a NYSSMA Level 5 sight-reading piece.
Percussionists: Prepared performance of three specific excerpts (one snare drum, one mallet, and one timpani). Percussionists will not have a sight-reading component.
